Another Movie Trailer of the Day: First official trailer for Moonrise Kingdom — the latest installment in Wes Anderson’s storied directorial repertoire.

The film, which stars Anderson vets Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman alongside Bruce Willis, Ed Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, and newcomers Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward, is set to open in theaters May 25th.

It has gotten to the point where I don’t even think I’d be able to tell if I didn’t like a Wes Anderson movie. I’m a sucker for all of this shit, and if that makes me a preening precious hipster wannabe fuckface, well then so be it. I’ll wear that tweed crown. I’ll cop to having a strong response to visual symmetry. I WILL ADMIT TO LIKING THE KINKS. Who doesn’t like the fucking Kinks? Also, Moonrise Kingdom sounds like the title of a lost Kinks album, doesn’t it? Was that intentional? Everything about his movies is intentional. I bet it’s intentional.

Also, Tilda Swinton is in this? She was like… made in a vat of radioactive Wes Anderson film stock. That’s perfect casting. Scout uniforms are tailor made to be put in a Wes Anderson movie! Guys, remember when he made a stop motion movie about foxes but still managed to squeeze daddy issues into it? Guys, he’s good. He’s good at making this thing. This one thing. It’s a good thing. No one be mad when this movie isn’t good, because even if it’s not good, it’s still good.

AT WORST it’ll be a good Kinks music video, or a good art director’s reel, or a good Bill Murray thing. REMEMBER BEFORE BILL MURRAY WAS COOL AGAIN? Ugh, there’s no use. I’m going to see this movie even though I’ve already seen it every other year since 2000. It doesn’t matter. All that matters is Tilda Swinton, hand drawn things, and The Kinks.

I LOVE BOTTLE ROCKET, RUSHMORE and THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS. LIFE AQUATIC and DARJEELING not so much. FANTASTIC MR. FOX was terrific. I love this trailer. But even if it was someone else’s movie that still starred Bruce Willis and Bill Murray, I would be excited to see it anyway.
