I never liked DOCTOR WHO. I still don’t. Stop it.

One of my friend’s nerdy brother used to tape it on his VCR every Sunday night on WTTW, the local PBS affiliate in Chicago. One night in 1987 a guy hijacked the broadcast with a pirated signal dressed as Max Headroom. So on Monday morning, we watched this. And every day for like three years. It is still one of the top five weirdest things I’ve ever seen.

It’s my favorite thing about DOCTOR WHO. To this day, I can’t see a mention of DOCTOR WHO without thinking about it. So I think about it a lot because you nerds won’t shut up about it now. It’s utterly bizarre to me that it’s become ‘popular.’ Literally the nerdiest thing  could do in my day was watch DOCTOR WHO and/or still live in your mother’s basement as an adult. 

Anyway, I don’t hold it against you. I wasn’t exactly a jock or anything. My teenage bedroom walls were covered with pictures of Michael Stipe and Morrissey and I loved watching Schwarzenegger and Stallone get all oiled up and fight dudes. 

Anyway… Enjoy this crazy shit. It’s still really fucking weird and unsettling.
